Peach and Me - 1994

a little about me and… the Peach

I met Peach* in the fall of 1986. Vet school. Her name ended in a Z, mine in a T, and so our friendship began alphabetically. At first. Sitting there across from that lab bench, little did I know what an amazing friend she would become.

We made it through vet school with lots of laughs, pizza, beads (more about that later) and more laughs. We traveled across the country together for our first jobs as veterinarians. As time passed, life got busy. Crazy busy. Cross-country moves, marriages, and all of the regular “stuff” of life. We fell out of touch. I missed her.

We reconnected, and I was stunned at how we could pick up, just like that. Laughing, talking, hours flying by. But there was something new between us. Breast cancer. What? How could that happen? She was too young, too smart, too pretty, too… whatever adjective you wanted to add in. Wow. I didn’t know what to say.

We have always talked about anything and everything, and breast cancer was no different. I was again awestruck at her journey through diagnosis and treatment. And her wonderful support group of friends that rallied for her during those scary times. I am so honored to be part of Femme Fus! :)

* Why the name Peach?
Well, that has been her name since vet school. Neither of us can remember why, but it fits. It just does. I was wishing that I had a cool nickname, but we can’t remember if I had one, and nothing has “stuck” yet for me. hee hee
