Peach > Bilateral mastectomy > The diagnosis > What “Triple Negative” Means

The day I got the diagnosis

So, after I found that crazy lump I started jumping over the hurdles and through the hoops.

I was about to start getting a bunch of these!

I was about to start getting a bunch of these!

My gynecologist wasn’t in the office the day I discovered the lump so I’d have to call back the next day.

What the heck? I know how to ultrasound things in cats and dogs… why not my boob? I’d do it today. I was swallowing hard as I started the sonogram. Uh-oh, there it is, for real, on the screen, not looking good. If this were a dog boobie, I’d be frowning, scanning, and frowning. I’d be telling my nurse, this doesn’t look good. Oh yeah, it’s my boob. Not good. Appeared to measure about 1.6cm. Where’s that biopsy needle? Oh yeah, it’s my boob. Where’s the phone? Call a doctor, quick!

Six weeks and a plethora of diagnostics later I got the call.

I was scrubbed in to surgery. I was in a sterile gown and couldn’t pick up the phone but didn’t want to miss the call. Please put it on the speaker phone. I love all these people in this room. They can get the news when I do.

Oops. Wrong. Bad news. Whoa. Here come the tears. Who invited those in to this sterile surgery suite? My boss (and mentor) told me to scrub out. We sure couldn’t have those tears dropping in to “Spot’s” surgery site. Did I see my boss well up? I think I did.

Time to schedule bilateral mastectomy…….
