The Race for the Cure – Portland Oregon
The Portland Oregon Race for the cure is one of the largest in the nation. The race was the 3rd largest in 2007. Our Femme Fus team finished #2 out of 1,196 teams for the 2008 Portland race! That is awesome, and we are so happy about that. We couldn’t have done it without you – THANK YOU!
Startling facts (from the Portland Komen Race for the Cure handbook):
- Oregon and Washington have the highest rates of breast cancer in the nation.
- Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 40 and 59.
- In 2008, approximately 182,460 women and 1,990 men will be diagnosed with this disease in the United States.
- Each year, 2,444 women are diagnosed in Oregon and 4,156 are diagnosed in Washington. 520 women in Oregon and 780 in Washington will die from breast cancer annually.
